Bad Side Effects of Prescription Drugs

As mentioned before there are alot of bad side effects with any medications, as well as good side effects, but for now we will talk about the bad side effects. For the first example there is the prescription drug Ambien. Ambien is a seditive that is taken for sleep problems such as insomnia. Ambien will cause relaxation so that you fall asleep, but you have to sleep for 7 to 8 hours if not something serious may occur.

If you do not get the full amount of sleep that is recomended then the drug may still affect you, you should not go drive or operate heavy machinery if you have not slept for a full 7-8 hours, but what about the bad side effects. One side effect is the user driving, making phone calls, or eating, later on the person had not remembered doing any of these activites. Another bad side effect of the drug included a severe allergic reation, why would you risk your life to take something that helps you fall asleep, yes sleep is important but is it really that important.

Lipitor is another common prescription medicine, this is a medicine that is used to lower a persons cholesterol. That sounds good your cholesterol can be lowered and why would that be bad, but what about the side effects? Lipitor can cause a breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue (does this not sound bad?), and this may lead to kidney failure. It also states that you should call your doctor if you experince muscle weakeness, tenderness, or pain, and if you have fever/flu like symportoms or if your urnie is dark colored. Does anything from that sound good? Would you really want any of that to happen to you, yes your cholesteral would be lowered but what about other ways. You can try to lower your cholesterol by getting a good amount of exersize and try to stay away from foods that have a lot of fat in them.

Next I will use Vicodin as another example, vicodin is used to treat pain that is anywhere from moderate to mild. What really is not too clearly stated is that you should not take it if your have liver cirrhoisis or if you drink 3 or more drinks a day. If you take the drug while drinking 3 or more drinks a day the consequenses may be severe. It is also said that you must becareful if you drive or do something where you need to be alert and awake, this is due to the drug possibly impairing how you think. This may not sound too severe but it really is. It is also a habit-forming drug, do you really want that to happen to you? Do you want to become hooked on a drug that will give you a type of high? This will possibly ruin your life and life to others around you.

Do you really want any of these side effects to happen to you? I know that the chance of some of these happening is not too high but is it really worth it? Some of these side effects may be mild while others are severe so why risk it? Do you really want to take the easier way out of something like getting lower cholesteral even if the side effects of the drug can hurt you? It may take alittle more work to do something such as watching what you eat or getting a litlle more exersize but it might be a better option to take.

Are Side Effects Bad or Good

Many prescription drugs are used for many positive reason but what about their side effects? Sometimes the side effects may be good and other times they may be bad, as an example of a good side effect I will use Benadryl and for the bad side effects I will use Zoloft. Benadrly, it is a common over the counter medicine that can some times be used a light sedative. This may be used if someone needs get a better sleep or if they need to stay fully asleep at night. This is a good example of a positive use of a side effect. What about the negative side effects of medications? You may see a commerical on TV in which the speaker comes out speaking at a good level and everything is really exciting, but what about in the end of the commercial? In the end the side effects are announced but usually lower and faster than before, this is because then the company can say that they had told you what the medicine may also do. For this negative example of a side effect i will use Zoloft, this is a common drug used to help treat panic disorders, anxiety disorders, and depression. Sounds good does it not? Some of the side effects of Zoloft include increased anxiety, panic attack, and depression( wait is it not supposed to help with this?). There is also hyperactiveness, both physically and mentally, and increased thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself. You may argue that they chances of you obtaning these side efects are slim but what if they happen to you is it really worth it? Taking this may help you or may worsen you, so why bother taking it. I know that you may say it is bad, but is it really worth yor life? All of my facts used in this had came from http://www.drugs.com/drug_information.html
